Economos '17 joins Utah Grizzlies

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Former Plymouth State University men's ice hockey forward Michael Economos (Crystal Lake, Ill.) has been promoted to the Utah Grizzlies of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) the team announced on Friday.

Economos, who accumulated 95 career points (50 goals, 45 assists) during his career at PSU, had been playing with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) this season.

"I am extremely grateful and excited to earn the opportunity to play in the ECHL," said Economos. "Plymouth State helped me develop the hockey skills that were able to transfer over to the pro level very well. I can't wait to continue to develop at this level and once again I'm very excited for this chance to move up."

The Grizzlies are currently 14-5 and hold a one-point lead atop the Mountain Division. Utah is an affiliate of the NHL's Colorado Avalanche.

"We're happy for Michael to be climbing the pro ranks," said PSU men's ice hockey coach Craig Russell. "He worked extremely hard in his time here, but he took it to another level before this season and we're excited to see his commitment pay off. Utah is looking for an energy guy to come in and spark their first place team, and I think they picked a good one. We wish Eco the best of luck with the Grizzlies."
