PSU Men’s Ice Hockey player earns MASCAC honor

Volonnino named to Weekly Honor Roll

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – For the second time in three weeks the leading goal-scorer for the Plymouth State University men's ice hockey team was honored by the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC).

Senior Matt Volonnino (Hackettstown, N.J.) was selected to the MASCAC Men's Ice Hockey Weekly Honor Roll after helping the Panthers lock up a third straight regular season title.

Volonnino recorded a goal and an assist to lead Plymouth State to a 5-2 Senior Day win over Framingham State in the Panthers' lone contest of the week. The 5-11 forward had his first period shot redirected past the Rams' goaltender, and he potted the game-winner in the second as Plymouth State secured the regular season title for the seventh time in eight years.

Volonnino leads the Panthers with 16 goals and his 33 points are the second most on the team. His nine power play tallies are tied for second in the nation.

Plymouth State (15-6-3, 12-3-2 MASCAC) wraps up the regular season Tuesday (Feb. 19) at Westfield State. The first round of the MASCAC Tournament begins Saturday, but with the top seed the Panthers won't play until the semifinal round the following Tuesday (Feb. 26) at Hanaway Rink.
