PSU Men’s Hockey player selected for MASCAC honors

Barillaro named Player of the Week, Pettersson to Honor Roll

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – After helping the Plymouth State University men's hockey team lock up the top seed of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) tournament, a duo of Panthers was selected for weekly recognition.

            Junior, Brandon Barillaro (Alexandria, Ontario) was tabbed as the MASCAC Player of the Week, sponsored by GEICO, while senior Andreas Pettersson (Trollhattan, Sweden) was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.

            Barillaro scored twice in the opening three minutes of PSU's 3-1 win over UMass Dartmouth on Thursday to help the Panthers secure at least a share of a fourth straight regular-season title. He opened the scoring with his first goal at the 1:56 mark of the opening period, then doubled the lead 18 seconds later.

            Barillaro has had a good season for the Panthers, notching four goals and two assists on the yea. His +/- of +3 ties him for sixth-most on a strong Panther squad.

            Pettersson stopped 33-of-34 shots in the matchup at UMass Dartmouth on Thursday, improving to a 12-4-2 record. Pettersson is having a phenomenal season for the Panthers, boasting a.919 save percentage and leads the MASCAC with a .722 winning percentage.

            Plymouth State (13-9-2, 13-3-1 MASCAC) will close out its regular season on Tuesday (Feb. 25) as the Panthers host Salem State at 6:00 p.m.
