PSU Men’s Hockey players earn MASCAC honors

Abbate, Pettersson recognized following MASCAC tournament run 

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – After helping the Plymouth State University men's hockey team repeat as Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) tournament champions, a pair of players were awarded weekly honors by the league.

            Freshman Myles Abbate (Norwell, Mass.) was named the Player and Rookie of the Week, while senior Andreas Pettersson (Trollhattan, Sweden) took home Goalie of the Week honors, sponsored by GEICO.

            Abbate finished the week with five points on two goals and three assists to earn Tournament MVP honors. He registered a pair of assists in the Panthers' 4-2 win over Westfield State in the semifinals on Tuesday, then added two goals and an assist in the 6-2 win over UMass Dartmouth in the title game on Saturday.

            Pettersson posted a 2.00 goals against average and .935 save percentage while stopping 58 shots to help PSU become the first repeat tournament champion. He made 34 saves in the championship game and stopped 24 in the win over the Owls.

            Plymouth State (15-9-3) heads to #7 Endicott for the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday (Mar. 14).
