PSU Men’s Hockey player named to MASCAC Sportsmanship Team

Pettersson selected to represent Panthers

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Plymouth State University senior Andreas Pettersson (Trollhattan, Sweden) was one of 29 student-athletes recognized for their outstanding sportsmanship as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) announced its 2020 Winter Sportsmanship Team on Monday.

Pettersson was chosen as the Panthers' men's ice hockey representative. The MASCAC Sportsmanship Team is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each team in every sport that best demonstrated the values of the MASCAC and its Sportsmanship Statement, regardless of their overall performance or statistics for the season.

The sports represented on the winter team are men's and women's basketball, men's ice hockey and men's and women's indoor track and field. A student-athlete from each institution is chosen by their head coach to be placed on the team. Plymouth State is an affiliate member of the MASCAC in the sports of men's ice hockey and football.

Pettersson enjoyed an impressive senior campaign while helping PSU become the first back-to-back MASCAC tournament champions in league history. He posted a 14-4-3 record with a 2.39 goals against average and .920 save percentage while even contributing four assists on the year. He was particularly good during the Panthers' playoff run, allowing just two goals per game while making 58 saves in PSU's two tournament wins.

Plymouth State (15-9-3) was scheduled to face #7 Endicott in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday (Mar. 14), before the NCAA canceled its winter and spring championships in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
