Plymouth State named new men's lax coach
PLYMOUTH, N.H.- Two more new head coaches have been named at Plymouth State College, according to Panther athletic director Steve Bamford.
The new men's lacrosse coach is Bob Ewell, who served as PSC's assistant coach last season.
Ewell joined the Panther staff last season as assistant men's lacrosse coach, and helped the team to one of its best seasons in history. A 1971 graduate of Colby College, Ewell served as head lacrosse coach at his alma mater for 11 years from 1974-85, where he also coached football and women's ice hockey. Princeton University was Ewell's next stop, where he was assistant men's lacrosse coach and head of the women's ice hockey program. Ewell also had a stint at nearby New Hampton Prep, where he coached football and lacrosse from 1991-96.
"Bob made a significant impact on our men's lacrosse team," said Bamford. "He has the respect and admiration of the student-athletes under his supervision. We're very fortunate in being able to attract a quality individual and coach like Bob Ewell. His work ethic and commitment to recruiting quality student-athletes bodes well for the future of our men's lacrosse program.
"Plymouth State has had a strong men's lacrosse program for a long time," said Ewell, who is also an assistant football coach at PSC, "and I just hope to maintain and build on that foundation. We were able to have an outstanding season last year, and we hope to keep the momentum going for another strong season next spring."
Ewell replaced veteran head coach Dave Webster, who completed a 21-year career in 1998.
