PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Three Plymouth State College men's lacrosse players combined for 15 goals and seven assists Saturday afternoon to lead the Panthers to a 19-11 victory over Keene State College in a key Pilgrim League contest at Panther Field.
The win improves PSC to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in league games, while Keene State drops to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in the Pilgrim League.
Sophomore Jim Martocchio (Simsbury, CT) connected on a season-high eight points with six goals and two assists for PSC, senior Josh Perry (Falmouth, MA) added four goals and four assists, and senior captain Nate Ostis (Yarmouth, ME) contributed five goals and an assist to lead the Panther offense.
The two teams were tied 1-1 after one period, and PSC held a slim 7-6 advantage at halftime. It was an 11-8 PSC lead at the end of three quarters, but the Panthers pumped in six unanswered goals to open the fourth quarter and open up an insurmountable 17-8 margin.
The Owls were led by sophomore Aaron Varella (Nashua, NH), who scored a team-high four goals. KSC scoring leader Bob Bonnes (West Chester, PA), who scored 41 goals in the first eight Owl games this season, was limited to three goals and an assist, and senior Eric White (Boxboro, MA) added a pair of scores and two assists.
PSC goalie Nate Pearson (Bow, NH) made 19 saves to post the win, while KSC's Ryan Scipione (Middlebury, VT) posted 21 saves.
PSC plays another home game Tuesay (Apr. 13) with a non-league contest against Bowdoin (3:30 p.m.). Keene State returns home to host Curry on Thursday (7:00 p.m.).
