PSC Men's Lacrosse falls to Southampton
SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. - Southampton College of Long Island University had too much power for the Plymouth State College men's lacrosse team Wednesday, handing the Panthers their first defeat of the season, 23-11.
The Colonials, who were ranked #10 in the national Division II pre-season poll and are currently #6, got six goals apiece from Rich Stoia and Mike Daquino and five goals from Chris Asaro.
Plymouth State was led by junior JP Sallese (Beverly, Mass.), who connected on three goals. Junior Jim Martocchio (Simsbury, Conn.), who scored a career-high 10 goals in Monday's season opener against Richard Stockton College, tallied just two times Wednesday.
The Panthers also got two goals and two assists from freshman Jason Biedrzycki (Amherst, NH), and a goal and an assist each from sophomore Andrew Quesnel (Middlebury, VT) and freshman Ken McGuire (Wayland, Mass.). Senior defender Pete Slaski (Bayville, NY) and junior Sean Clancy (Penfield, NY) also chipped in with solo goals.
PSC sophomore goalie Jon Clark (Yarmouth, Maine) made 28 saves in the game, while Colonial netminder Larry Falkman made 13 saves.
PSC, 1-1, returns to action next Wednesday, Mar. 29, at American International College in Springfield, Mass. (3 p.m.). Southampton is now 3-0.
