PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Plymouth State College scored the first 10 goals of the game Monday afternoon, and went on to defeat Salem State College, 12-2, in men's lacrosse action at rainy and muddy Panther Field.
Junior Jim Martocchio (Simsbury, Conn.) led the Panthers, scoring five goals and adding two assists. Junior JP Sallese (Beverly, Mass.) tallied two goals and an assist, and freshman Ken McGuire (Wayland, Mass.) contributed three assists.
Also getting into the scoring act for PSC with one goal apiece were Sean Clancy (Penfield, NY), Peter Slaski (Bayville, NY), Andrew Quesnel (Middlebury, VT), Scott Wearley (Westfield, NJ) and Tony Bosco (Londonderry, NH).
The Panthers led 3-0 after one period and 7-0 at the half. PSC extended its lead to 10-0 in the third quarter before Greg Lydon (Marblehead, Mass.) and Trevor Eaton (Peabody, Mass.) got on the board for the Vikings.
PSC starting keeper Jon Clark (Yarmouth, Maine) made six saves and reserve Davin Townley-Tilson (Concord, NH) stopped one shot. Salem State's Tim Finn (Chelsea, Mass.) made 18 saves.
PSC, 3-2 overall, returns to action Thursday (Apr. 6) at Lasell College (3:30 p.m.). Salem State, 2-4, plays Thursday at New Haven (3:30 p.m.).
