PSC Men's Lacrosse defeats Keene State
KEENE, N.H. - Junior Jim Martocchio (Simsbury, Conn.) had seven goals and an assist Saturday to lead Plymouth State College to a 13-8 Pilgrim League men's lacrosse victory over Keene State College at the Owl Stadium Complex.
Bob Bonnes (Glen gardner, NJ) led the Owls (4-5, 1-3 Pilgrim League) with four goals. Junior JP Sallese (Beverly, Mass.) added five assists for the Panthers (5-2, 2-0 Pilgrim League).
With the game tied at 4-4 after the first quartr, PSC outscored KSC 6-1 in the second period to take a 10-5 halftime lead. Keene State closed the gap to 11-7 in the final minutes of the third quarter, but Martocchio scored twice midway through the fourth quarter to secure the victory.
KSC goalie Ryan Scipione (Middlebury, Conn.) continued his strong play in goal, tying an Owl record with 20 saves. Sophomore Jon Clark (Yarmouth, Maine) made 15 saves for the Panthers.
"Plymouth made some adjustments and had a strong inside game all day," said KSC coach Mark Theriault. "We tried to stay with them, but they have a little more depth and experience than we do at this stage of our program."
PSC returns home to host Saint Michael's Thursday (4/13) at Panther Field (3:30 p.m.).
