PSC Men's Lacrosse rips Maine Maritime

PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- Juniors Jim Martocchio (Simsbury, Conn.) and JP Sallese (Beverly, Mass.) combined for nine goals and six assists Wednesday, leading Plymouth State College to a 20-5 triumph over Maine Maritime Academy in a Pilgrim League Northwest Division contest.

The win puts PSC back on the winning track after two straight losses. The Panthers are now 7-4 overall and 3-1 in the Pilgrim Northwest Division. MMA drops to 2-8 and 1-5. PSC led 5-1 after one period and 14-2 at the half before putting the game away with four unanswered goals in the third quarter.

Martocchio, who leads the nation in Division III in goals per game (6.00) finished the outing with six goals and two assists, while Sallese, who is sixth in the nation in assists per game (3.56), contributed three goals and four assists. Martocchio's second goal of the game was his school-record 58th this season, breaking the mark of 57 he set last season. He also has tallied 172 career goals, and needs just five more to break the all-time PSC goal scoring mark of 176, established by Scott Walden from 1993-96.

The Panthers also got two goals and three assists from senior Ben Stone (Acton, Mass.) and a pair of goals from junior Sean Clancy (Penfield, NY). Seven other Panthers notched single tallies -- Pete Slaski (Bayville, NY), Andy Quesnel (Middlebury, Vt.), Josh Lane (Fairfield, Conn.), Ken McGuire (Wayland, Mass.), Tony Bosco (Londonderry, NH), Jon Hunt (Guilford, Conn.) and goalie Jon Clark (Yarmouth, Maine), who played an attack position in the fourth quarter.

The Mariners got two goals and two assists from junior John Macisso, a goal and an assist from Tom Zysk, and solo goals from Keith Turcotte and Obie Spear.

PSC starting keeper Jon Clark (Yarmouth, Maine) made nine saves and reserve Davin Townley-Tilson (Concord, NH) made three saves in the fourth quarter. MMA goalie Grant Robinson stopped 15 shots.

PSC returns to action Saturday (Apr. 22) with a conference game at UMass Boston (1 p.m.). Maine Maritime returns home to host Keene State Saturday (10:30 a.m.)
