PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Two members of the Plymouth State College men's lacrosse team have been selected to participate in the prestigious East-West Senior All-Star Game, sponsored by the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.
Senior attackmen Jim Martocchio (Simsbury, Conn.) and J.P. Sallese (Beverly, Mass.) will represent Plymouth State on the East Team in the all-star game, which will be played this Sunday (May 13) at 2 p.m. at the College of Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass.
The selections continue a list of post-season honors for the high-scoring Panther duo. Both Martocchio and Sallese were named to the Little East Conference All-Tournament Team last week.
The two Panthers were the offensive leaders of a PSC team that earned its first post-season berth in 12 years in 2001. The Panthers participated in the ECAC New England Tournament, and finished the season with a 7-8 overall record.
A 5'9" attackman, Martocchio completed his fourth consecutive 50-goal season in 2001, connecting on 56 goals and finishing his career with an impressive 252 markers. He owns school records for goals in a game (11), season (86) and career, and he is second on PSC's all-time points list with 285.
A 6'1" attackman, Sallese led the Panthers in scoring this season with 78 points (29 goals and 49 assists). He holds the school record for assists in a season (54 in 2000), and ranks third on both the PSC career lists for assists (143) and points (232).
Both Martocchio and Sallese are among the NCAA Division III national leaders this season in offense. Sallese ranks third in the nation in assists/game (3.43) and 14th in points/game (5.43), and Martocchio is ranked ninth in Division III in goals per game (3.86).
