PLYMOUTH, N.H. - One of the senior captains and leading scorers on the Plymouth State College men's lacrosse team has been honored for his performance in the final week of the regular season.
Senior attackman Jim Martocchio (Simsbury, Conn.) was named Little East Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the first time this season. He scored 16 goals and added two assists in four games, leading PSC to a 3-1 week.
A 5'9" attackman, Martocchio matched his season high with eight goals and two assists Sunday in a 15-5 win against Lasell College. He also had multiple goals in three of the four contests. Martocchio improved his season totals to 44 goals and 47 points in 12 games, which ranks third in the LEC in goals per game (3.67) and 10th in points per game (3.92).
Martocchio extended his career goal scoring mark, as he now has a PSC-record 240 goals in his career. He is also second on PSC's all-time points list with 273, trailing only Scott Walden (1993-96), who holds the record with 323 points.
The Panthers finished up the regular season with a 6-6 overall record and a 3-3 mark in the LEC. PSC ended up in fourth place in the conference, and will play at home in the first round of the inaugural LEC Tournament on Tuesday (May 1) against fifth-seeded Salem State (6 p.m.). The winner of that game will travel to top-seeded and LEC regular season champion Eastern Connecticut on Thursday (May 3) for a semi-final match-up.
