PSC whips Franklin Pierce in opener
ORLANDO, Fla. - Plymouth State College got goals from nine different players Sunday night at the Disney Sports Complex and went on to post a 24-8 non-conference victory over Franklin Pierce College in the men's lacrosse opener for both schools.
Trailing 2-1 midway through the opening frame, PSC scored six of the next eight goals to make it a 7-4 game after one period. The Panthers outscored the Ravens 5-1 in each of the next two quarters to take a 17-6 lead into the fourth before coasting home with the win.
The triumph marks career victory No. 1 for PSC head coach Chuck Little.
Leading the way for the Panthers were junior Ken McGuire (Wayland, Mass.) with five goals and two assists, and junior Kevin Finnerty (Bay Shore, N.Y.) with four goals and an assist. Senior Andrew Quesnel (Middlebury, Vt.) added three goals and three assists and sophomore Sam Harding (South Berwick, Maine) contributed three goals and two assists.
Also getting into the scoring act for PSC was senior Nolan Fredericks (Temple, N.H.), sophomore Jake Frerk (Beverly, Mass.), and freshmen Steve Skinner (Hingham, Mass.) and Pat O'Malley (South Windsor, Conn.) with two goals apiece. Junior Jason Biedrzycki (Amherst, N.H.) added one goal, and senior Eric Gilbert (South Portland, Maine) chipped in with four assists.
Junior goalie Dan Egan (Cambridge, Mass.) made 19 saves to pick up the win in his Panther debut before sophomore Tim McNamara (West Lebanon, N.H.) came on for the last five minutes and made two saves.
PSC plays again at the Disney Sports Complex on Tuesday at 1 p.m. against St. Lawrence University (1:00 p.m.). SLU is 2-1 this season after going 12-4 last year and winning the ECAC Upstate Lacrosse Championship.
