PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior Jim Ruggeri (Waltham, Mass.) scored seven goals and freshman Ben Bradley (Hadley, Mass.) added five tallies Saturday afternoon, leading the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth to a 21-12 Little East Conference victory over Plymouth State College in the final men's lacrosse game of the regular season at Panther Field.
The Corsairs wrap up the regular season at 7-6 overall and 4-2 in LEC play, while PSC finishes up at 4-9 overall and 2-4 in the conference. UMD finishes in third place in the LEC and will host the University of Southern Maine in an LEC first-round contest on Tuesday. PSC ends up in fifth place and will travel to UMass Boston for Tuesday's first-round contest.
UMD jumped out to a 5-1 lead after one quarter, and held an 11-6 margin at the break. The Corsairs put the game away by outscoring the Panthers 8-2 in the third quarter to take a 19-6 advantage before cruising home with the win.
In addition to Ruggeri and Bradley, the Corsairs got two goals apiece from sophomores Joe Mirisola (Ashland, Mass.), John King (Ashland, Mass.), and Jeff McKee (Ashland, Mass.), and single goals from senior Bryan Wallace (Wilbraham, Mass.), sophomore Adam Cusano (Framingham, Mass.), and junior Ryan McDonald (Weymouth, Mass.).
PSC senior Andrew Quesnel (Middlebury, Vt.) led PSC with four goals and an assist in his final home game. Junior Kevin Finnerty (Bayshore, N.Y.), sophomore Jake Frerk (Beverly, Mass.) and freshman Pat O'Malley (South Windsor, Conn.) added two goals each for PSC, and seniors Nolan Fredericks (Temple, N.H.) and Eric Gilbert (South Portland, Maine) chipped in with one apiece.
UMD goalie Mike Jenkins (Ashland, Mass.) made 18 saves to post the win, while PSC goalies Dan Egan (Cambridge, Mass.) and Tim McNamara (West Lebanon, N.H.) combined for 19 saves.
