Panthers nipped by NEC
HENNIKER, N.H. - Senior Ross Mondello (Leavittown, N.Y.) and freshman Ben Corriveau (Freeport, Maine) combined for nine goals and two assists Thursday, including a goal apiece in the final two minutes of the game, leading New England College to a 13-12 victory over Plymouth State College in a non-conference men's lacrosse game.
The game was close all the way. The Pilgrims maintained a 4-3 lead after one quarter, and a 7-5 advantage at the break. It was a one-goal game (8-7 NEC) heading into the fourth quarter, and still anybody's game when PSC sophomore Steve Skinner (Hingham, Mass.) scored his second goal of the afternoon with 2:45 to play in the game to tie it at 11-11.
But Mondello and Corriveau answered for the Pilgrims, scoring consecutive goals seven seconds apart in the final two minutes for the game-clinching scores. Mondello finished with five goals and an assist, and Corriveau ended up with four goals and one assist. PSC got one back in the final minute, but NEC held on for the win.
The Pilgrims even their overall record at 5-5, while PSC falls to 3-6.
