PSU Mens Lacrosse drops first game in Florida to Plattsburgh State
ORLANDO, Fla. - Undefeated State University of New York College at Plattsburgh came alive in the second half Saturday afternoon and defeated Plymouth State University 13-7 in a men's lacrosse game at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.
Plattsburgh State finished it Florida trip 3-0 and improved to 5-0 on the season. It was the first game of PSU's spring trip as the Panthers even their overall mark at 1-1.
Plymouth State led 1-0 after one quarter and it was 2-2 at the half. Senior goaltender Steve Valeri (Chelmsford, Mass.) made 11 of his 17 saves in the first half as the Cardinals had several scoring opportunities.
Plattsburgh put the game away in the second half, scoring six goals in the third quarter en route to an 8-5 lead, and added five more in the fourth quarter.
Junior Adam Krinsky (Concord, N.H.), freshman Wes Downing (Glastonbury, Conn.) and senior Kyle McKay (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored two goals apiece for the Panthers, and junior Doug Malloy (Londonderry, N.H.) added one goal. Freshman Kyle Belanger (Southington, Conn.) registered two assists, and classmates Alex Blanco (Stratford, Conn.) and Matt Johansmeyer (Shelburne Falls, Mass.) collected one each.
Three Plattsburgh State attackmen finished with three points each. Freshman Kyle Norchi scored three goals, junior Frank Sangiovanni two goals and an assist, and freshman Luke Weidlein, a goal and two assists. Billy Hughes made 21 saves in the Cardinal net.
Plymouth State will face Clarkson on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Disney Complex.
