MILFORD, N.H. - Seniors Chris Murphy (Winchester, Mass.) and Matt Surette (Wakefield, Mass.) and junior Jeff Dunkle (Exeter, N.H.) scored three goals apiece Monday afternoon as Saint Anselm College defeated Plymouth State University, 11-4, in non-conference men's lacrosse action at The Hampshire Dome.

The Hawks dominated the first half and took control of the contest, leading 8-0 at halftime.  PSU regrouped at the break and scored the only goal of the third quarter, but Saint Anselm put the game away with the first three goals of the fourth quarter.  The Hawks picked up their first win of the season (1-2), while PSU, which tallied three goals in the final three minutes, fell to 0-2.

Saint Anselm led just 1-0 after the first period despite a 19-1 advantage in shots.  The Hawks erupted for seven unanswered strikes in the second stanza, as Murphy scored three straight unassisted markers, Surette added his second of the game, and Dunkle rattled off three in a row.  All three of Dunkle's goals were set up by junior Matt O'Connell (Charlestown, Mass.), who finished the game with four assists.

Junior Brett Zebrowski (Bayville, N.Y.) put the Panthers on the board with a man-up goal early in the third period, but that was all PSU could muster until the closing minutes of the game, when Zebrowski, senior Jordan Buzzell (Bath, Maine) and junior Brian Giroux (Wolfeboro Falls, N.H.) scored for the Panthers.

The Saint Anselm defense forced 14 failed PSU clears and limited the Panthers to just eight total shot attempts in the first half.  Junior Ben Severance (Rumson, N.J.) led the Hawks with five ground balls. Junior Derick Smith (New London, N.H.) collected a game-high seven ground balls for PSU.

Sophomore goalie Dan Flynn (Wakefield, Mass.) needed to make just two saves in the first three quarters to earn the win in the Hawks' goal, and sophomore Pat Acone (Bow, N.H.) made three saves in the fourth quarter. Saint Anselm finished with a 48-28 advantage in shots.

PSU returns to action next Tuesday, Mar. 24, with a non-conference game at Lasell College (3:30 p.m.).  Saint Anselm will be at Dominican (N.Y.) this Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
