Long, Patch lead PSU Men’s Lacrosse past Salem State
Panthers sink Vikings for seventh straight win
SALEM, Mass. – Juniors Ty Long and Stephen Patch combined for five goals and five assists Saturday evening as Plymouth State University defeated Salem State University, 10-8, in a Little East Conference match at Alumni Field.
It was a tight game throughout. PSU held a 2-1 lead after one quarter and a 5-3 margin at halftime, but the Vikings came back to tie the game at 5-5 and 6-6 midway through the third quarter. The Panthers pulled ahead by three, 9-6 and held off a Viking rally with an insurance goal with five minutes remaining.
Long finished with three goals and two assists while Patch recorded two goals and three assists. Five other Panthers score one goal each.
Nate Arminio scored five goals and recorded two assists for the Vkings, with his last goal coming on a diving attempt that drew Salem State to within a goal at 9-8 with 8:04 remaining in the game.
Plymouth State had a 44-22 advantage in shots while groundballs were even at 35.. Senior goalie Jack Tyo earned the win in net, making 10 saves, while Kyle Tuneburg took the loss for the Vikings after stopping 13 shots.
Salem State travels to MIT on Wednesday while Plymouth State hosts Curry in its home opener on Wednesday at Panther Field.
