More Little East honors for PSU Lacrosse players

Panthers Gleason, Connerty, Morello are repeat performers

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Weekly awards continued for the Plymouth State University lacrosse teams Monday as Panther standouts on both the men's and women's teams were recognized by the Little East Conference on its weekly slate of honors.

Freshman Molly Gleason (Haverhill, Mass.) was selected LEC Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, and classmates Shannon Connerty (Nashua, N.H./Tyngsboro, Mass.) and Nick Morello (North Billerica, Mass.) were named LEC Women's and Men's Rookie of the Week, respectively.  Gleason and Connerty received their awards for the second week in a row, and Gleason and Morello have now each been recognized by the conference three times this spring.

  Gleason Connerty Morello

A first-year midfielder, Gleason led PSU to a pair of key LEC victories by dominating the center of the field, collecting double-digit draw controls in both games. She finished with 14 draw controls and two ground balls in Tuesday's big 16-13 win over rival Keene State and posted a double-double in Saturday's 12-11 victory at Western Connecticut with 12 draw controls and 10 ground balls.  Gleason is closing in on the school record for draw controls in a season.

A freshman attack woman, Connerty led the PSU offense in the two LEC victories last week, scoring eight goals and assisting on three others.  She tallied a game-high eight points on six goals and two assists in Tuesday's win over Keene State, and she added two goals and one assist in Saturday's victory at Western Conn..  She also picked up five ground balls at WestConn and grabbed two draw controls in each game.

A freshman attack man, Morello shared the scoring lead for the PSU men last week in a pair of tough LEC overtime losses, finishing with five goals and three assists.  He tallied a goal and three assists in Wednesday's 9-8 setback against Southern Maine and scored a game-high four goals in Saturday's 10-9 loss to Western Connecticut.

All three of this week's Panther recipients rank highly among the LEC statistical leaders.  Gleason leads the conference in draw controls per game (7.7) while Connerty ranks second in goals per game (3.6), third in points per game (4.8), and eighth in assists per game (1.2).  In the LEC men's rankings, Morello is fourth in goals per game (2.3) and fifth in points per game (4.8).

Both Panther teams wrap up the regular season with a pair of conference games this week.  The PSU women (11-1 overall, 4-0 LEC), winners of 11 in a row, will visit the University of Southern Maine on Wednesday and return home to host Rhode Island College on Saturday, while the PSU men (8-4 overall, 2-3 LEC) host Keene State on Tuesday and UMass Dartmouth on Saturday.
