Keene State downs Plymouth State in men’s lacrosse
Panthers wrap up regular season Saturday at home
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior Ian Hart and senior Matt Schairer scored four goals apiece Tuesday afternoon as Keene State College defeated Plymouth State University, 17-10, in a Little East Conference men's lacrosse game at Panther Field.
The Owls led 4-1 after the opening quarter and tallied five unanswered goals in the second frame to open up a 10-2 lead. The visitors held a 17-5 advantage early in the fourth quarter before PSU scored the final five goals of the game. Keene State won its fifth in a row to improve to 8-5 overall and 5-1 in conference play, while PSU dropped its fourth straight and dipped to 8-5 and 2-4.
KSC, which leads the LEC in scoring, also got three goals from junior JT Galloway, two goals and an assist from freshman Ryan Hart, and a goal and three assists from freshman Kevin Carey. Junior Taylor Jette notched a goal and an assist and picked up a team-high six ground balls.
Junior Ty Long, sophomore Chris Annunciat and junior Mike Ventura scored first-half goals for PSU, and sophomore Zach Frank and freshman Mike Curley got on the board for PSU early in the second half. Curley finished with a team-high six grounds balls.
Keene State finished with a decisive advantage in shots (46-30) and ground balls (53-20) and a narrow margin in face-offs (16-14). KSC junior Jason Leser made 11 saves while allowing only five goals in the KSC net to earn the win before departing with nine minutes remaining. PSU senior Jack Tyo made nine saves in the PSU goal.
Both teams wrap up the regular season Saturday with Senior Day games at home, PSU hosting the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth at noon and KSC entertaining Western Connecticut State University at 3:30 p.m.
