GORHAM, Maine – Senior Nick Morello (North Billerica, Mass.) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with 2:45 to play as the visiting Plymouth State University Panthers defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies, 8-7, in Little East Conference men's lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon at Hannaford Field.

The win was the ninth straight for the Panthers, and improved their record to 10-1 overall and 4-0 in LEC play.  The Huskies dropped their second straight to slide to 6-4 overall and 1-3 in the conference.

Freshmen Zach Bessette (Readfield, Maine/Maranacook) and John Bossi (Billerica, Mass.) split time in the Husky cage.  Bessette recorded nine saves while Bossi stopped seven shots.

Morello opened the scoring with a man-up goal with 3:26 left in the first quarter.  Senior Burleigh Desjardins (Brunswick, Maine) notched the equalizer with just over a minute to play in the quarter.

Wing scored the only goal of the second quarter snapping home a pass from Watts midway through the period.

Watts gave the home side a two-goal cushion 45 seconds into the third quarter.  Pichel and sophomore Nicco Sorrentino (Chelmsford, Mass.) scored goals for the Panthers 3:11 apart to tie the game.  Jamison's first goal came with 2:21 left in the quarter to give the Huskies their last lead of the day.  Senior Aaron Boss (Keene, N.H.) tallied 38 seconds later for PSU to send the game into the final quarter tied 4-4.
