Vonachen, Brault, Haversat earn Player of the Week accolades for Panthers
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Three Plymouth State University lacrosse players were recognized with top weekly honors by the Little East Conference (LEC) Monday for their performances in Panther contests last week.
Juniors Caroline Vonachen (Framingham, Mass.) and Meg Brault (South Windsor, Conn.) were named LEC Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player and Goalie of the Week, respectively, and junior Adam Haversat (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) was tabbed the LEC Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week. They have been key players for the Panther squads in the first two weeks of the season.
A 5-5 midfielder, Vonachen was PSU's leading scorer in the team's season-opening victory last Wednesday, an 11-6 verdict at Salve Regina. She scored three first-half goals to help the Panthers to an early lead, and finished with five goals and one assist. She also posted a game-high seven draw controls to help PSU win the possession game.
A 5-8 netminder, Brault recorded her first win of the season and her second career victory against Salve. She made 12 saves while allowing just six goals between the pipes for the Panthers. Brault made some key saves to prevent the Seahawks from gaining any momentum and getting back into the game.
The Panther women's team, 1-1, in is Puerto Rico this week for three games during the school's Spring Break.
A 6-0 long-stick midfielder, Haversat picked up 14 ground balls and caused six turnovers in a pair of Panthers games last week. He caused five miscues in Wednesday's game at Lasell and one Saturday at Castleton, and collected seven ground balls in each contest.
The Panther men are back in action Tuesday, Mar. 15, at 7:00 p.m. at Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
