PSU Men’s Lacrosse players earn LEC recognition

Kerkel named Goalie of the Week, Delea Offensive Player of the Week

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Two members of the Plymouth State University men's lacrosse team were honored with recognition from the Little East Conference (LEC) after their performances over the last week.

Junior Zel Kerkel (Loudon, N.H.) was named LEC Men's Lacrosse Goalie of the Week and freshman Connor Delea (Manchester, N.H.) earned LEC Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors after the Panthers topped Norwich University, 14-12, in their lone game last week.

Kerkel made a career-high 15 saves, including five in the decisive fourth quarter, to improve to 1-1 on the season. Plymouth entered the final quarter with an 11-9 advantage, but Norwich fired 17 shots in the final 15 minutes as the Cadets attempted the comeback. They pulled to within 13-12 with just over four minutes remaining, but Kerkel slammed the door and a late goal gave PSU some breathing room as the Panthers held on for the win.

Delea was the game's top scorer notching four goals in his collegiate debut. His first quarter goal evened the game at 2-2 after PSU had fallen behind 2-0. He added two more scores in the first 2:06 of the second quarter to erase a 5-3 deficit and his fourth goal with 3:01 remaining in the third quarter gave the Panthers a 10-9 lead that they wouldn't relinquish.

Plymouth State's non-conference game at Massachusetts Maritime Academy scheduled for Tuesday (Mar. 13) has been postponed due to winter storm Skylar. The Panthers will travel to Curry College on Thursday (Mar. 15) for a 3:00 p.m., non-conference tilt, weather permitting.
