Harrington named Defensive Player of the Week
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The Little East Conference (LEC) announced its weekly award winners for men's lacrosse on Monday and a Plymouth State University student-athlete was among those to be honored.
Junior Chuck Harrington (Walpole, Mass.) was selected as the LEC Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Panthers complete one of the most successful conference regular seasons in program history.
Harrington led the Panthers with 23 ground balls and 12 caused turnovers as PSU wrapped up the LEC schedule with a 2-1 week. He scooped up nine ground balls and forced three turnovers while adding a pair of goals as the Panthers topped Castleton University, 17-10, on Tuesday. In Saturday's 12-8 win over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth he added another nine ground balls while matching a season-high with five caused turnovers and two more goals. He closed out the week with a five-ground ball, four-caused turnover, one-goal effort in a 12-10 setback to Eastern Connecticut State University.
Harrington currently ranks second in the conference in caused turnovers (32) and fourth in ground balls (93), while chipping in on the offensive end with seven goals and three assists. This is his second Defensive Player of the Week honor this season.
The Panthers wrapped up the regular season at 7-7, but went 6-2 in the LEC to finish second, matching the program's best finish. The six conference wins are also the most in school history. PSU will enter the LEC Tournament as the second seed, playing the winner of No. 3 Western Connecticut State University and No. 6 University of Massachusetts Boston on Friday (May 3) at Keene State.
