PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Four Plymouth State College men's soccer players were honored for their performances in last weekend's Diadora Classic, hosted by Keene State, and one of the players was named to the Little East Conference Weekly Honor Roll.
Seniors Jesse Elderkin (Concord, NH) and Adam Jordan (Milford, NH) and junior Kevin Martin (Foxboro, MA) were all selected to the Diadora Classic All-Tournament Team, and freshman Magnus Eriksson (Karlstad, Sweden) was named Defensive Most Valuable Player. Elderkin is PSC's representative on this week's LEC Honor Roll.
The whole group helped PSC earn shutout victories over Norwich (2-0) and RPI (1-0) as PSC improved to 3-0-1 overall this season. The Panthers are ranked third in New England and 21st in the nation in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America Division III polls.
Elderkin scored the game-winning goal with 8:26 to play in last week's 2-1 win at St. Anselm, and notched the only goal of the contest in the 1-0 victory over R.P.I. He has two goals in four games this season, and 12 goals in 49 games in his career. Adam Jordan was an Honor Roll selection last week.
PANTHER NOTES: Goalkeeper Shawn Higgins (Foxboro, MA), a transfer from Central Connecticut who played reserve forward for PSC last season, has gotten off to an excellent start in goal this fall. He registered the two shutouts in the Diadora Classic, and has a league-leading 0.46 goals against average with 18 saves......The two-time defending LEC champions, Plymouth State doesn't play its conference opener until Sept. 26, when the Panthers host Keene State (7:00 p.m.) in the first home night game in PSC history. PSC was picked to win the LEC in the pre-season coaches' poll, and KSC was predicted to finish runner-up.
