PSC Men's Soccer player earns second straight LEC honor

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The leading scorer on the Plymouth State College men's soccer team has been recognized again this week by the Little East Conference for his accomplishments.

Senior Jesse Elderkin (Concord, NH) was selected LEC Player of the Week for the second straight week. He scored two goals in last Wednesday's 3-0 win at Wheaton, including the game-winner, and added another in Saturday's big 2-1 victory over arch-rival Keene State. Elderkin has been on fire, scoring six goals and two assists in the last four games, increasing his season totals to seven goals and two assists, third-best in the LEC.

The Panthers, with important regional victories last week over Wheaton and Keene State, have moved to #18 in the NSCAA Division III national poll while remaining #3 in this week's New England poll. PSC, 6-0-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the LEC, hosts Bates College Tuesday (Sept. 29) at Panther Field (4:00 p.m.), and travels to Danbury, Conn., Sunday (Oct. 4) for an LEC encounter against Western Connecticut (12:00 p.m.).

PANTHER NOTES: Perhaps the biggest goal of the season to date was scored Saturday night with nine minutes remaining in the Homecoming match between PSC and Keene State. Junior goalkeeper Shawn Higgins (Foxboro, MA) continues to lead the LEC in goals against average. Higgins has made 34 saves and three shutouts while maintaining a slim 0.55 goals against....... PSC has won two straight Little East Conference titles, and four overall. The Panthers were the pre-season pick to "three-peat" as conference champs, but Keene State was a close second....... PSC has a career record of 69-35-8 under head coach Shawn Griffin, who's now in his seventh season as head coach at his alma mater.
