PSC Clinches Share of Third Straight LEC Title
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Plymouth State College men's soccer team pushed its unbeaten streak to 14 games Saturday with a 4-0 win over Little East Conference opponent UMass Boston at Panther Field.
The Panthers, ranked #2 in New England and #9 in the nation, improve to 12-0-2 overall this season, and 6-0-0 in the LEC. PSC has won 14 straight LEC matches dating back to 1996, and has clinched at least a share of its third straight LEC championship. The Beacons fall to 8-8-1 overall and 2-4 in the LEC.
The Panther's Jesse Elderkin (Concord, NH) opened the scoring in the 12th minute by chipping the ball past UMB goalie Ken Susi (Danvers, MA) from 25 yards out. It was Elderkin's team-leading 13th goal of the season. The Panthers dominated the play for the entire half with the Beacons only mustering two chances in the half.
The second half continued on much like the first with PSC's Jeff DeRosa (Billerica, MA) beating several UMD defenders for a spectacular goal in the 58th minute. The Panther's scoring continued with Dean Ronnie (Johannesberg, South Africa) netting his first goal of the season in the 72nd minute. PSC remained focused with a 3-0 lead, finishing the scoring in the 88th minute when freshman Antoine Moiboueyi (Gabon, Africa) continued his scoring tear with his ninth goal of the season, with an assist from freshman Garry Thomson (Glasgow, Scotland).
The Plymouth defense was led by senior goalkeeper Shawn Higgins (Foxboro, MA), who made four saves for his sixth shutout of the season. His counterpart for UMB, Ken Susi (Danvers, Ma), made eight saves.
The Panthers are back in action this Thursday (Oct. 29) at St. Michael's College (3:00 p.m.). The Beacons play Tuesday at Johnson & Wales.
