PSC captures LEC Men's Soccer title
WILLIMANTIC, CT - The Plymouth State College men's soccer team won its third consecutive and fifth overall Little East Conference title Saturday with a 2-0 shutout victory over Eastern Connecticut State University.
The win improves PSC's record to 14-0-2 overall and 7-0-0 in the LEC. The Panthers haven't lost an LEC game in 15 consecutive tries, dating back to October 26th, 1996.
Senior Jesse Elderkin (Concord, NH) put the Panthers up for good in the 20th minute when he headed in a cross from back Simon Sendowski (Gothenberg, Sweden) for his team leading 14th goal of the season. His 31 points are also a team high.
Freshman Antoine Moiboueyi (Gabon, Africa) continued his scoring tear, scoring for the 10th time in the last 10 games. During that span he has also netted two game-winners and a hat trick. Moiboueyi beat ECSU keeper Doug Craig in a one-on-one in the 87th minute after receiving a through ball from Sendowski.
Shawn Higgins (Foxboro, MA) had four saves on the way to his sixth shutout of the season. Craig made four stops for the Warriors.
The Panthers wrap up the season with two non-conference home games. Plymouth plays host to Rivier College Wednesday (Nov. 4) under the lights of Panther Field (6:30 p.m.), then plays its regular season finale against Brandeis University on Saturday (Nov. 7) at 2:00 p.m.
The Panthers are on track to receive an NCAA berth, as they are currently ranked #2 in New England and 10th in the nation.
