Two PSC Men's Soccer pPlayers invited to Senior All-Star Game

PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- Two Plymouth State College men's soccer players were selected to play in the New England Intercollegiate Soccer League Senior All Star Game this Friday (May 7th) at Willow Brook Park in New Britain, CT.

Forward Jesse Elderkin (Concord, NH) and goalkeeper Shawn Higgins (Foxboro, MA) will join the Division III and NAIA squad which will challenge the top seniors from Divisions I and II at 5:00 p.m.

Elderkin was an offensive powerhouse in what was his most successful season as a Panther. He scored 16 goals in 1998 and totaled 36 points. He was named Little East Conference Player of the Year and was selected 1st team All New England. Elderkin won LEC weekly honors three times this season and scored in 3 multiple-goal games, including a hat-trick at Southern Maine. He also notched game winners at St. Anselm, RPI, and Eastern Connecticut, as well as important strikes against Wheaton, Williams and Keene State College. Elderkin finished with a total 26 career goals, nine assists and 61 points in 65 games.

Higgins had a sensational season in goal for the Panthers. A transfer from Central Connecticut, Higgins played as a forward in '97, scoring nine goals, before taking his place between the pipes in '98. He was named 2nd team All-America, 1st team All-New England, and 1st team All-Conference, and as well as two-time LEC Player of the Week. Higgins recorded nine shutouts and was the starting keeper in three other team shutouts. He conceded only nine goals in 1800 minutes and was ranked fifth in the nation with a 0.46 goals-against average.

Elderkin and Higgins were instrumental in PSC hosting and reaching the New England regional final of the '98 NCAA Tournament and finishing with a 17-1-2 overall record under sixth-year head coach Shawn Griffin.
