PSC upset by UMass Dartmouth

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The UMass Dartmouth Corsairs came to Panther Field and handed Plymouth State College its first Little East Conference defeat, 1-0, in a men's soccer contest Saturday afternoon.

The Panthers dominated most of the game, and spent nearly the entire contest in UMD's end of the field. PSC outshot UMass Dartmouth, 32-6 in the game, but the Panthers were unable to convert any goals. Sophomore keeper Jorge Fonseca (Ludlow, Mass.) was outstanding making 16 saves.

UMass Dartmouth senior Pat Gavin (Thornton, Col.) scored the only goal of the game in the 56th minute off of a pass from freshman David Fonseca (Ludlow, Mass.) that was just beyond the reach of PSC sophomore keeper Brad Wilby (Haddonfield, N.J.). Wilby finished with four saves in the contest.

The Panthers had plenty of chances throughout the contest, including three shots that deflected off the crossbar and two shots that beat the goalie but were cleared by a UMD defenseman. PSC also missed a penalty kick midway though the second half.

PSC plays its last regular season game next Saturday, Oct. 21, at Panther Field against UMass Boston (1 p.m.) With a victory, the Panthers would clinch the LEC regular season title, receive a first round bye, and have home field advantage throughout the LEC Tournament.
