PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Plymouth State College men's soccer team clinched the Little East Conference regular season title Saturday with a 5-0 victory over the UMass Boston at Panther Field.
PSC freshman Brian Hanafin (Londonderry, N.H.) had a goal and assisted on a late insurance goal to lead the Panther attack. The Panthers spread the ball around all game and received goals from senior Simon Sendowski (Gothenberg, Sweeden), junior Garry Thomson (Glasgow, Scotland), senior Blair Weeden (North Woodstock, N.H.) and freshman Chipe Culum (Manchester, N.H.). Sophomore Rob Ball (Rockaway, N.J.) and senior Jeremy Gasowski (Lee, N.H.) each had an assist in the victory.
The Panthers outshot the Beacons 32-6 in the contest. UMB junior goalkeeper Orlando Torres (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) made 16 saves, while PSC junior Scott Laine (Spencer, Mass.) turned away two shots for his fourth shutout of the season.
The Panthers finished the season with an overall record of 12-4 and 6-1 in the LEC. UMass finished 8-10-1 overall and 1-6 in the LEC. With the regular season over, the Panthers receive a first round bye in the LEC Tournament, and begin their post-season run this Friday (Nov. 3) when they host an LEC semi-final at Panther Field.
