Panthers stay unbeaten in LEC play
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - In a close contest marked by many fouls, Plymouth State College defeated Eastern Connecticut State University 1-0 Saturday in a Little East Conference men's soccer game at Panther Field.
The win gave the Panthers their second straight Little East Conference victory and second straight shutout win, and improved their record to 4-3-0 overall. ECSU falls to 0-2-0 in conference play and 2-8-0 overall.
The lone goal of the game came in the 26th minute when a header by PSC senior Antoine Moiboueyi (Gabon, Africa) bounced off the cross bar and classmate Garry Thomson (Glasgow, Scotland) blasted home the rebound for his second goal of the season.
Eight warning cards were handed out in the contest, including a red card that had PSC playing down a man for the final 30 minutes, but the Warriors were unable to capitalize.
PSC senior Scott Laine (Spencer, Mass.) stopped four shots to earn his second consecutive shutout and seventh of his career. ECSU junior Arthur Lubniewski (Newington, Conn.) finished with three saves as the Panthers outshot the Warriors, 10-6.
Plymouth State travels to Keene this Saturday (Oct. 6) for a vital LEC game against arch-rival Keene State (3:00 p.m.).
