PSC powers past RIC

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior tri-captain Garry Thomson (Glasgow, Scotland) paced the Panthers with a goal and two assists Saturday afternoon as Plymouth State College defeated Rhode Island College 6-1, in a Little East Conference men's soccer match at Panther Field.

PSC is on a four-game winning streak and improves its record to 8-4-0 overall and 5-1-0 in the LEC. RIC falls to 4-10-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the LEC.

Sophomore Michael Cantelli (Raymond, N.H.), senior Darryl Plimpton (Billerica, Mass.), junior Rob Ball (Rockaway, N.J.) and Thomson each scored in the first half to give the Panthers a 4-0 start. Assisting the goals for PSC were Thomson, Jake Morley (South Hampton, England) and John Foster (Haddonfield, N.J.), who had two.

The Anchormen struck back early in the second half as sophomore Paul Sousa (East Providence, R.I.) scored on a rebound from Plymouth keeper Scott Laine (Spencer, Mass). RIC was held scoreless for the remainder of play while Panther senior Antoine Moiboueyi (Gabon, Africa) and freshman Sebastian Rodriguez (San Jose, Costa Rica) insured the win by scoring its final two goals.

Keepers Laine and Jayson Smith (Northwood, N.H.) combined for seven saves to capture the win for the Panthers. Carlos Pinhancos (Cumberland, R.I.) and Jay Nelson (Pascoag, R.I.) combined for five saves in the loss for RIC.

Plymouth State travels to Rivier College Monday Oct. 22, in a non-conference match (6 p.m.)
