PSC tied for second in LEC pre-season poll

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Defending Little East Conference champion Keene State College received six of the eight first-place votes and claimed the top spot in the annual pre-season men's soccer poll of the league's head coaches.

Keene State captured the LEC regular season title a year ago with a perfect 7-0 league mark, and posted a pair of shutouts in the ensuing post-season conference tournament to earn its second title in the three-year history of the event. KSC advanced to the opening round of the NCAA Tournament before concluding the year with an overall mark of 18-4-0.

Plymouth State College, which captured the LEC title in 2000 and finished runner-up last season, finished in a tie for second in this year's poll, sharing the spot with the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. PSC, which received one first-place vote, bowed to Keene State in the finals of the 2001 LEC Tournament before going on to win the ECAC New England Championship and finish with a 14-6-0 overall record.

UMass Dartmouth will look to improve upon an impressive 2001 campaign, in which the Corsairs registered a 5-2 conference slate, advanced to the semifinals of the LEC Tournament, and finished the year with a 13-6-0 overall mark.

PSC and UMD narrowly finished ahead of Western Connecticut State University, which finished fourth in the poll and posting a 9-8-4 overall last season. Rounding out the poll were Rhode Island College (4-11-5 last year), Eastern Connecticut State University (5-15-1), the University of Southern Maine (3-16-1), and the University of Massachusetts Boston (5-13-0).
