PSC routs UMass Boston
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Five different Panthers scored for Plymouth State College's men's soccer team Saturday en route to a 5-0 win over UMass Boston at Panther Field.
Junior Michael Cantelli (Raymond, N.H.) paced the Panther attack with a goal and an assist. Plymouth State improves its record to 1-0-0 in LEC play, 3-3-1 overall, while UMass Boston falls to 0-1-0 in the conference and 2-5-1 overall.
Sophomore Sebastian Rodriguez (San Jose, Costa Rica) opened the scoring for the Panthers, heading a cross from Cantelli past UMass Boston keeper Mike Tady (Coal Valley, IL) with 12 minutes to play in the first half. Three minutes later Cantelli headed home a ball in the box to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead at the half.
Freshman Brad Wyman (Durham, NH) opened the second half scoring when he got his head on nice cross from junior Kyle Bowman (Manchester, N.H.) at 57:12. Senior Justin Wengell (Newington, CT) poked one in four minutes later to make it 4-0, and junior Chipe Culum (Manchester, N.H.) finished off the scoring barrage when he blasted one home in the 89th minute.
Senior keeper Brad Wilby (Haddonfield, NJ) was solid in net for PSC making three saves while Tady made 13 saves in the loss. PSC will host non-conference opponent Bates Wednesday at Panther Field (6:00 p.m.). UMass Boston's next game is Tuesday at Fitchburg State (4 p.m.).
