PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior Mike Monteiro (Hudson, Mass.) had a goal and an assist Saturday to lead the Keene State College men's soccer team to a 2-0 Little East Conference victory over rival Plymouth State College.
Keene State, the defending LEC champion, improves to 8-4-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the LEC, while Plymouth State drops to 3-5-2 and 1-2-0.
The Owls got on the board when Monteiro broke through traffic and beat PSC goalkeeper Brad Wilby (Haddonfield, N.J.) at 37:14, and maintained a 1-0 lead at the break. Sophomore John Harke (Leeds, Mass.) scored Keene's second goal midway through the second half when he converted a nice through ball from Monteiro.
Each team finished with six shots on goal. Wilby finished with three saves for PSC, and senior DJ Nordmark (South Windsor, Mass.) recorded the shutout for KSC with a four save effort.
PSC returns to action Tuesday (Oct. 15) with a non-conference match at Colby-Sawyer College (3:30 p.m.). Keene State returns home to host Rhode Island College next Saturday (Oct. 19) at 1:00 p.m.
