Plymouth State Mens Soccer nips Eastern Conn. in OT
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Freshman Felix Rosen (Stockholm, Sweden) scored his fifth goal of the season five minutes into overtime Saturday afternoon to give Plymouth State University's men's soccer team a 1-0 Little East Conference victory over Eastern Connecticut State University at rainy Panther Field.
The win, PSU's fifth in a row, improves the Panthers to 8-1-0 overall and keeps them unbeaten in LEC play at 3-0-0. Eastern Conn. drops to 3-7-2 overall and 0-3-0 in the LEC.
After a scoreless regulation play, which included only five shots on goal by the two teams, PSU junior Sebastian Rodriguez (San Jose, Costa Rica/Plymouth H.S.-NH) collected a loose ball near the top of the box, and fed Rosen on the right-hand side. Rosen rolled a shot past ECSU freshman keeper Dan Murphy (Montville, Conn.) into the left corner of the goal for the game-winner. It was Rosen's third goal in the last two games, and his team-leading fifth of the season.
The outcome also marked PSU's fifth consecutive shutout, and the seventh of the season. The stingy Panther defense has allowed only three goals all season. Senior goalkeeper Brad Wilby (Haddonfield, N.J.) needed to make only three saves to post his seventh shutout and lower his league-leading goals against average to 0.33.
PSU is home again on Tuesday with a non-conference game against Colby-Sawyer (4:00 p.m.), while Eastern Conn. returns home to host Western Connecticut in an LEC affair next Saturday.
