Plymouth State Mens Soccer continues shutout streak
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Freshman Felix Rosen (Stockholm, Sweden) scored two goals and Plymouth State University's men's soccer team continued its shutout streak Tuesday with a 2-0 non-conference victory over Colby-Sawyer College at Panther Field.
The whitewash marked PSU's sixth consecutive clean slate as the Panthers improved to 9-1 overall. PSU has blanked eight of its 10 opponents this season and has surrendered only three goals all year. Colby-Sawyer drops to 4-8-1.
Rosen was set up nicely by teammates to give the Panthers a 2-0 first-half lead. Senior Kyle Bowman (Bedford, N.H.) delivered a through-ball to set up Rosen for the first goal at 11:19, and senior Nick Libera (Cromwell, Conn.) found an open Rosen with a cross for the second goal at 24:43.
That turned out to be all the Panthers needed. PSU junior goalkeeper Jayson Smith (Northwood, N.H.) made his first start of the season and made two saves in the first half. He shared the shutout with senior Brad Wilby (Haddonfield, N.J.) who came on preserve the shutout with a terrific save from point-blank range on a header by Colby-Sawyer junior Ryan Fagnant (Woodsville, N.H.) midway through the second half.
PSU, ranked fifth in New England, returns to Little East Conference action Saturday with a key game at arch-rival Keene State (1:00 p.m.). Colby-Sawyer plays again Saturday in a Commonwealth Coast Conference game against Nichols (3:00 p.m.).
