Overtime goal lifts PSU Men’s Soccer past UMD

PLYMOUTH, N.H.

- Sophomore Felix Rosen (Stockholm, Sweden) broke a scoreless tie in the second overtime Saturday afternoon to give Plymouth State University a 1-0 victory over Little East Conference foe UMass Dartmouth in a thrilling men's soccer contest at Panther Field.

Rosen, who led PSU in scoring last season, helped his team start on the right foot in the conference opener by calmly finishing a beautiful through-ball by senior Sebastian Rodriguez (San Jose, Costa Rica) just over two minutes into the second overtime.

In a back and forth affair that featured many scoring chances, PSU out-shot UMD 9-4.  Senior Jayson Smith (Northwood, N.H.) made three saves in the Panther net to register his third shutout of the season and the fifth of his career.  Freshman Kyle Fossey (Townsend, Mass.) made four saves for the Corsairs.

PSU improves to 5-1-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the LEC.  The Panthers, ranked eighth in New England, face the 5th ranked team in New England, Wheaton, in a big non-conference showdown on Wednesday (4:00 p.m.).  UMass Dartmouth, 4-2-0 and 0-1-0 in the conference, looks to bounce back and will host Bridgewater State on Tuesday (4:00 p.m.).
