PSU Mens Soccer loses heartbreaker to Keene State in OvertimePLYMOUTH, N.H.
- Freshman Greg Sauer (West Brookfield, Mass.) broke a 1-1 tie just two minutes into the first overtime Saturday afternoon to propel Keene State College to a 2-1victory over arch rival Plymouth State University in a thrilling Little East Conference men's soccer contest at Panther Field.
The visitors controlled play for the first few minutes and struck just 10 minutes into the contest. Senior captain John Harke (Leeds, Mass.) finished a flick by Jimmy Hogan (Holderness, N.H.) to give the Owls the early lead. The Panthers quickly turn the tides and answered back less than 10 minutes later. Senior Sebastian Rodriguez (San Jose, Costa Rica) redirected a Brad Wyman (Durham, N.H.) throw-in and sophomore forward Felix Rosen (Stockholm, Sweden) headed it home to tie the score, 1-1.
The second half was a physical, back and forth game, with both teams having chances to score. The best opportunity came from PSU midfielder R.C. Mooney (Roseland, N.J.) as he was fed a through ball and Keene State goalie Brandon Beck (Johnstown, N.Y.) had to make a sprawling save to keep the score tied.
Senior Dan Custance (Holderness, N.H.) five saves in the Panther net, while Beck finished with four saves.
PSU, 6-4-1 overall and 2-2-0 in LEC play, travels to Tufts Wednesday for a non-conference match (4:00 p.m.). Keene State, 9-2-0 overall, 4-0-0 in the conference, and ranked second in New England and 15th in the nation, host RPI Wednesday night (6:30 p.m.)
