PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Freshman Semir Mehmedovic (Franklin, N.H.) scored his second straight game-winning goal Saturday afternoon, this time six minutes into overtime to lift Plymouth State University to a 2-1 victory over Eastern Connecticut State University in a Little East Conference men's soccer match at Panther Field.
The Panthers remain unbeaten this season (7-0-1 overall and 2-0 in the LEC) while the Warriors fall to 4-4-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Mehmedovic's game-winning goal was set up by sophomore Mike Cunningham (Moorestown, N.J.) as he slid a beautiful through-ball and Mehmedovic knocked it home for his fifth goal of the season.
The Panthers got on the board first midway through the opening half as Cunningham's cross found the diving head of Dustin Moya (Thorton, Colo.) who put it in the back of the net.
Eastern Connecticut evened the score 10 minutes into the second half as junior Elvis Perndoj (Lezha, Albania) hammered a shot from 30 yards out past PSU keeper Tyler Shute (Deerfield, N.H.)
Plymouth State held a slight 6-5 advantage in shots for the game. Shute was forced to make only one save to earn the win for PSU. ECSU keeper Jay Barney (Mansfield, Conn.) finished with two saves.
The Panthers' next game is at LEC arch rival Keene State next Saturday at 2:00 p.m. while the Warriors travel to Elms College on Tuesday (4:00 p.m.)
