PSU Men’s Soccer blanks Western Connecticut

By Seth Wilson

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Senior Brad Wyman (Durham, N.H.) tallied the lone goal in the 79th minute Saturday afternoon to lift Plymouth State University to a 1-0 victory over Western Connecticut State University in a Little East Conference men's soccer match at a rainy Panther Field.

The Panthers boost their record to 9-1-2 overall and 3-1-0 in the LEC while the Colonials fall to 10-3-1 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play.

Wyman's fourth goal of the year was set up by freshman Semir Mehmedovic (Franklin, N.H.) as he flicked the ball over the Colonial defense to Wyman who slammed it in the back of the net.

PSU had a chance to get on the board early in the match as Mehmedovic had a breakaway but his attempt was cleared off the line by WCSU defender. Both offenses were slowed for most of the afternoon as a driving rainstorm turned the match into a defensive battle.

Plymouth State had another golden opportunity to go ahead in the 76th minute when freshman Gareth Stephens (Yoevil, England) cracked a volley that WCSU netminder Dan Michalowski (Bristol, Conn.) tipped then rang off the post.

Plymouth State held a 12-5 advantage in shots for the game. PSU keeper Tyler Shute (Deerfield, N.H.) finished with four saves to earn his fourth shutout of the season while Michalowski finished with two saves.

The Panthers' travel to LEC foe Southern Maine Monday at 4:00 p.m. for a make-up game while the Colonials host Wesleyan College on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.)
