WORCESTER, Mass. - Freshman Dimitrios Kapotis (Woodsville, N.H.) notched two goals while senior Semir Mehmedovic (Concord, N.H.) recorded a goal and two assists Wednesday afternoon to help Plymouth State University shut out Worcester State College, 6-0, in non conference men's soccer action at Coughlin Field.
The Panthers have won two in a row to improve to 4-5 while the Lancers slip to 4-4-2.
Freshman Dre Cabral (Tokyo, Japan) started the scoring in the 11th minute for the Plymouth State when he hit home a pass from Mehmedovic. Sophomore Stephan Welch (Tokyo, Japan) and Kapotis extended the lead to 3-0 with unassisted tallies in the 22nd and 37th minute, respectively.
After both teams came back onto the field following the intermission, Mehmedovic scored an unassisted goal in the 63rd and had a hand in dishing out Adam Gove's (Newton, N.H.) first marker of the season in the 74th minute. Kapotis capped off his impressive day with this second goal of the game and team-leading sixth this year in the 86th on a feed from sophomore Tommy Schrey (Munich, Germany).
Plymouth State finished the game leading in both shots (21-9) and corners (2-1).
Senior keeper Tyler Shute (Deerfield, N.H.) earned his first shutout of the season after he made two stops between the pipes for the Panthers. Sophomore classmates Daniel Hansen (Worcester, Mass.) and Evan Wilga (Dudley, Mass.) each shared equal playing time in the net for the Lancers.
Both teams will play conference games on Saturday. Worcester State will embark on a four-game road trip starting with a MASAC match against Framingham State while Plymouth State will host Little East foe Southern Maine at 4:30 p.m. at Panther Field.
