Three PSU Mens Soccer players earn All-LEC Honors
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Three members of the Plymouth State University men's soccer team were recognized for their outstanding seasons Saturday when they were named to the 2008 Little East Conference All-Star Team.
Plymouth State's leading scorer, senior Semir Mehmedovic (Concord, N.H./Frankin) was named to the All-LEC First Team, and a pair of senior midfielders, Adam Gove (Kingston, N.H./Sanborn Regional) and Gareth Stephens (Yeovil, England) were Second Team selections. The All-Star team is voted on by the league's eight head coaches, and was officially announced at the conclusion of Saturday's LEC Championship game.
Mehmedovic (right) is one of the leading scorers in
the LEC, ranking in the top three with 13 goals and 36 points and
leading the league with 10 assists. He had three goals in PSU's LEC
quarterfinal win over Western Connecticut and two in the semifinal
victory over Southern Maine. Mehmedovic has also moved up on
PSU's career scoring lists, and ranks sixth all-time in goals (29),
tied for fourth in assists (22) and fifth in points (80).
Gove (far left) and Stephens (left) were
solid players in the midfield, providing a veteran presence and
strong transition play. Gove, who scored three goals, is a
three-year veteran for PSU after transferring from Keene State,
while Stephens, who contributed two game-winning goals, is a
four-year veteran and three-year co-captain. They were
pivotal down the stretch when PSU put together a six-game unbeaten
streak to get to the LEC title game.
Plymouth State finished the season with an 8-9-3 overall record. The Panthers were the fourth seed in the LEC Tournament but lost 1-0 in the championship game when Rhode Island College scored with four minutes remaining.
