SALEM, Mass. - Senior Semir Mehmedovic (Zvornik, Bosnia/Franklin, N.H.) scored three goals and added an assist Wednesday evening to lead Plymouth State University past Salem State College, 6-2, in a non-conference men's soccer game.

The Panthers had to overcome a 2-0 deficit, but scored twice in the last five minutes of the first half to knot the score then tallied four unanswered goals in the second half.  PSU remains undefeated on the young season (3-0) while Salem State evens its record at 1-1.

Senior Andrew Angus (Boston, Mass.) gave Salem State an early lead when he scored his second goal of the year. Sophomore Raphael Santos (Brazil/Boston Latin H.S.) added the Vikings' second score at 36:28 to give the home team a comfortable two-goal lead.

Mehmedovic, who entered the game as Plymouth State's leading scorer on the year, scored his first goal with just over five minutes remaining in the first half to put Plymouth State on the board. Junior Tommy Schrey (Munich, Germany/Alvirne (N.H.) added the equalizer less than three minutes later to tie the score just before the break.

Freshman Joakim Martinsson (Morlunda, Sweden) put the Panthers ahead for good with a goal two minutes into the second half.  It was assisted by Mehmedovic, who followed with his second strike of the game 10 minutes later to increase PSU's lead to 4-2.  Sophomore Eric Owens (Newton, N.H./ Sanborn Reg.) made it a three-goal game with his first of the season in the 68th minute, and Mehmedovic closed out the scoring with his fifth goal of the season at 86:55 to earn the hat-trick.

Freshman keeper Bjorn Ohlsson (Halmstad, Sweden) posted five saves in the Panther goal.  The Panthers, which outshot Salem State 12-10, including 6-1 in the second frame, avenged last season's 2-0 defeat.

PSU is on the road again on Saturday with a visit to Bridgewater State College for a 1:00 p.m. match-up.  The Vikings are back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 16, when they travel to UMass-Dartmouth for a 7:00 p.m. contest.
