Top LEC Weekly honors for PSU Mens Soccer players
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - A pair of freshmen on the
Plymouth State University men's soccer team were recognized by the
Little East Conference on Monday after leading the Panthers to a
pair of victories.
Freshman Bjorn Ohlsson (Halmstad, Sweden) was selected LEC Goalkeeper of the Week while classmate Parker Spear (Sodus Point, N.Y.) was named LEC Rookie of the Week. Both had a hand in PSU's two wins last week.
A 6'1", 178-pound keeper, Ohlsson (right) posted a pair of
victories in goal, including his third shutout of the season. He
made five saves in Plymouth State's 6-2 win at Salem State and on
Sept. 12, stopped each of Bridgewater State's four attempts in a
2-0 victory. The two goals surrendered to the Vikings are the only
two allowed by Ohlsson in four matches this season. The
weekly award was the second-straight of the season for the
freshman.
A 5'5" midfielder, Spear (left) recorded a goal and
two assists in PSU's 2-0 week, appearing on the score sheet in both
games. He assisted on two goals in Wednesday's 6-2 victory at
Salem State, and he scored his first career goal in the second half
of PSU's 2-0 win at Bridgewater State to solidify the victory.
The Panthers, 4-0-0 on the season, opens conference play this Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. kickoff at rival Keene State College.
