Top LEC Weekly honors for PSU Mens Soccer players
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - A pair of freshmen on the
Plymouth State University men's soccer team were recognized by the
Little East Conference on Tuesday after leading the Panthers to a
shutout victory in their only game last week.
Freshmen Joakim Martinsson (Morlunda, Sweden) and Bjorn Ohlsson (Halmstad, Sweden) were selected LEC Men's Soccer Defensive Player and Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively. They were honored after helping PSU post a 1-0 whitewash over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on Saturday. Ohlsson is honored for the third time this season while Martinsson received his first LEC weekly award.
Martinsson, a 6'3", 195-pound defender (far right), and
Ohlsson, a 6'1", 178-pound keeper (near right), were key
players in the Panther win over UMD. Martinsson backboned the
defense that allowed just eight shots on goal while Ohlsson stopped
all eight shots for his fifth shutout of the season.
Martinsson has led a Panther defense that leads the LEC in fewest goals allowed (14) and ranks second in goals against average (1.07) and shutouts (5). Ohlsson leads the conference keepers in goals against average (1.07), save percentage (.831) and shutouts (5).
The Panthers, 8-5-0 overall and 2-3 in conference matches, hosts Castleton State College on Wednesday in a non-conference match-up at Panther Field (4:30 p.m.).
