PSU Mens Soccer player earns All-New England recognition
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The leading scorer on the Plymouth State University men's soccer team has been recognized for his outstanding season with selections to two All-New England Teams.
PSU senior Semir Mehmedovic (Zvornik, Bosnia/Frankin H.S., N.H.) was named First Team All-New England by both the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Mehmedovic was a Fourth Team All-New England selection last year by the NSCAA, and is a two-time First Team All-Little East Conference honoree.
In addition, PSU senior Tim Allan (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) earned Honorable Mention on the NSCAA Scholar All-East Region Team.
A 5'6" forward, Mehmedovic (left) was one of the top offensive players in the country in 2009. He led the Little East Conferenc in goals (18), goals per game (1.06) and points per game (2.29) and ranked second in total points (39). He started the season by earning Offensive MVP honors while leading PSU to the title in the Roger Williams Turfer Classic. Mehmedovic scored hat tricks in wins over Salem State and UMass Boston this season, and tallied two goals in a match in a pair of key victories over Western Connecticut and Tufts.
The Panther senior appears in the NCAA Division III national statistics, ranking fifth in the nation in goals per game and 11th in points per game. Mehmedovic also wrapped up a terrific career for the Panthers with 47 goals, 25 assists and 119 points, finishing in third place on PSU's career scoring list in all three categories.
Plymouth State finished the 2009 season with a 9-8-1 overall record. The Panthers made their first post-season appearance in three years with a berth in the ECAC New England Tournament.
