PLYMOUTH, N.H. -- The Little East Conference men's soccer preseason coaches' poll has been announced and Plymouth State University has been picked to finish fifth in this year's race. The votes were cast by the conference's eight head coaches.
PSU, led by ninth-year head coach Rob Wright, received 30 points to finish fifth in this year's poll. Defending regular season co-champions Eastern Connecticut State University and Keene State College shared the top spot in the poll with three first-place votes apiece and 54 points, while Rhode Island College was close behind with the remaining two first-place votes and 52 points. UMass Dartmouth claimed the fourth spot in the poll with 40 points, just ahead of PSU (30), and rounding out the poll was the University of Southern Maine in sixth, Western Connecticut State University in seventh, and UMass Boston in eighth.schools. The conference tournament, which includes the top four teams, is the first week in November, with the LEC champion receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
The Panthers wound up with a 9-8-1 overall record last season, and finished fifth in the LEC with a 3-4-0 mark. Despite missing the conference tournament, the Panthers earned a berth in the ECAC New England Tournament.
The LEC men's soccer regular season slate, now in its 22nd year, includes one match against the other seven schools. The conference tournament, which includes the top four teams, is the first week in November, with the LEC champion receiving an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
